Numerical Issues for StochasticAutomata
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we consider some numerical issues in computing solutions to networks of stochastic automata (SAN). In particular our concern is with keeping the amount of computation per iteration to a minimum, since iterative methods appear to be the most eeective in determining numerical solutions. In a previous paper we presented complexity results concerning the vector-descriptor multiplication phase of the analysis. In this paper our concern is with implementation details. We experiment with the size and sparsity of individual automata; with the ordering of the automata; with the percentage and location of functional elements; with the occurrence of diierent types of synchronizing events and with the occurrence of cyclic dependencies within terms of the descriptor. We also consider the possible beneets of grouping automata in a SAN with many small automata, to create an equivalent SAN having a smaller number of larger automata.

A General Rule for the Influence of Physical Damping on the Numerical Stability of Time Integration Analysis
The influence of physical damping on the numerical stability of time integration analysis is an open question since decades ago. In this paper, it is shown that, under specific very general conditions, physical damping can be disregarded when studying the numerical stability. It is also shown that, provided the specific conditions are met, analysis of structural systems involved in extremely hi...
متن کاملIMPORTANT ISSUES IN MULTIPLE RESPONSE OPTIMIZATION
There have been many productive methods developed so far for optimization of multiple response surface (MRS) problems. This paper tends to review the most seminal approaches in MRS and discuss the strength and weakness of each of the approaches through existing aspects in MRS. A numerical example is included to compare results by different methods. Finally some of the prominent areas for future...
متن کاملA Discrete Singular Convolution Method for the Seepage Analysis in Porous Media with Irregular Geometry
A novel discrete singular convolution (DSC) formulation is presented for the seepage analysis in irregular geometric porous media. The DSC is a new promising numerical approach which has been recently applied to solve several engineering problems. For a medium with regular geometry, realizing of the DSC for the seepage analysis is straight forward. But DSC implementation for a medium with ir...
متن کاملSimulation of local scour caused by submerged horizontal jets with Flow-3D numerical model
One of the most concerning issues for researchers is to predict the shape and dimensions of the scour pit nearhydraulic structures such as the base of bridges, weirs, valves and stilling basins due to both financial and humanhazards induced by destruction of the structure. As the scour issue has its own complexity in relation to themultiplicity of effecting factors on it, in this study therefor...
